Dr. Manesh Girn is a neuroscientist specializing in the neuroscience of psychedelic drugs at the University of California, San Francisco. Working closely with psychedelic research pioneer Dr. Robin Carhart-Harris, he conducts research on the neural mechanisms underlying the psychedelic experience and psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. He has been lead or co-author of over 20 peer-reviewed publications to date on topics including psychedelics, the default mode network, abstract cognitive processes, and brain network organization. Manesh also runs a popular digital platform on Instagram and YouTube called "The Psychedelic Scientist”, where he disseminates the latest findings and developments in psychedelic science in a layperson friendly manner. Finally, Manesh serves as the Chief Research Officer at EntheoTech Bioscience, a pioneering Canadian bioscience company focused on psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and multidisciplinary mental health solutions.
What psychedelic neuroscience teaches us about personal transformation
60 minutes
There has been an explosion of scientific research on psychedelics over the past decade. Not only has this work found that psychedelic therapy might be a promising breakthrough treatment for a variety of mental health conditions, research has also uncovered fascinating insights into how these substances work in the brain. Psychedelic neuroscience is rapidly becoming a full-fledged scientific field, deepening our understanding of the intersection between brain, mind, body, consciousness, and personal transformation. In this workshop, I'll provide a nuanced yet layperson friendly tour of the cutting-edge findings and perspectives in this area. Expect to learn more about psychedelic effects on neurons, neuroplasticity, the default mode network, mind-body integration, and more. I'll be conveying all of this in a way that you can directly apply to your life and personal healing journey, and I'll be going far beyond what's usually parroted in discussions of psychedelics in the media. Come join me on this fascinating exploration.
20+ years old, undergraduate-level education or higher is ideal, curiosity about how psychedelics can be used for improving mental health and promoting healing/personal transformation, an interest in the brain. No experience with psychedelics required.
